eScripts Help

  • Playscripts has begun the process of converting our vast catalog of exciting plays from traditional, printed acting editions to electronic editions. eScripts is what we've chosen to name these electronic editions. eScripts are available in two formats: eScript Digital Editions for reading on personal computers, tablet devices, and eReaders (i.e. Nook, iPad, Kindle Fire, Kobo, Sony, Android) and eScript Printable Editions sold only as cast sets for theatres or schools looking to perform the script.

    eScripts Quick Tips

    - You cannot print eScript Digital Editions files. You can only print our eScript Printable Editions available as cast sets.

    - Before you download an eScript purchased on Playscripts.com, download the free program Adobe ID.

    - You can only purchase eScripts with a credit card. We do not accept purchase orders for eScripts.

    - Your Account Dashboard on Playscripts.com will always contain your previous eScripts purchases.

    - If you would like to read your eScript on an Apple or Android tablet or phone, you will need to download the free Bluefire Reader App.

    - eScript Printable Editions are cast sets only, and contain a secured number of prints.

    - eScript Printable Editions cannot be shared digitally. They are meant to be printed out and shared that way.
    - Just like standard print editions, it is illegal to photocopy or share your eScript(s) without authorization.
  • eScript Digital Editions like an eBooks can only be viewed on personal computers, tablet devices and eReaders (i.e. Nook, iPad, Kindle Fire, Kobo, Sony). You cannot print these files. You can only purchase one copy of eScript Digital Editions.

    eScript Printable Editions are cast sets which are available with performances only. These files may be printed but they can't be shared digitally. The number of prints that you are allowed will correspond with the number of printable editions that you order. eScript Printable Editions have a minimum number of copies that need to be ordered based on cast size. If you are doing a show entirely remotely, we advise getting the Virtual Classroom Scripts.
  • To find out if a play is available as an eScript, simply search FIND A PLAY. On the play's profile page you will see if it is available as an eScript. Simply add the eScript to your cart and keep shopping or head to the checkout.
  • To read an eScript on your computer you will need to download Adobe Digital Editions software (NOTE: This is a different program than Adobe Reader). Do not click the eScript download link prior to installing Adobe Digtital Editions. You will only need to do this once for all of your eScript purchases. Please follow the step-by-step download instructions below:

    1. Create an Adobe ID if you do not already have one.
    2. Download Adobe Digital Editions.
    3. Follow the installation instructions. Make sure to keep "Associate .acsm and .epub file types" selected.
    4. Authorize Adobe Digital Editions with your Adobe ID.
    5. Download your eScript(s) by clicking the Download link in this order confirmation email below or by visiting your Account Dashboard. The file will automatically open in Adobe Digital Editions.

  • eScript Digital Editions like an eBooks can only be viewed on personal computers, tablet devices and eReaders (i.e. Nook, iPad, Kindle Fire, Kobo, Sony). You cannot print these files. You can only purchase one copy of eScript Digital Editions.

    The only printable eScripts are our eScript Printable Editions available only as cast sets. All eScript Printable Editions have a minimum number of prints you must order based on the cast size of the play.
  • Adobe Digital Editions is a program that offers a simplified, engaging way to acquire, manage, and read eScripts and other kinds of digital publications.
  • You can use Adobe Digital Editions on your laptop, your PC, and on any of the long list of dedicated reading devices that support Adobe Digital Editions software.
  • An Adobe ID is a free and a non-intrusive way of identifying users Ã????Ã???Ã??Ã?¢?? you need only provide a name, country, and e-mail address Ã????Ã???Ã??Ã?¢?? that allows you to read the eScripts youÃ????Ã???Ã??Ã?¢??ve purchased and transfer your eScripts to multiple devices. You can create your Adobe ID when prompted within Adobe Digital Editions as you authorize your computer, or go directly to the Adobe.com membership site.   • eScripts Digital Editions can be read on your Android tablet/phone or iPad/iPhone via the Adobe Digital Editions app after you purchase an eScript and create an Adobe ID. Do not click the eScript download link prior to installing ADE.

    Quick Install Instructions:

    1. Create an Adobe ID.
    2. Download the free Adobe Digital Editions app::

    3. Authorize the Adobe Digital Editions app with your Adobe ID.
    4. Download your eScript to your device by clicking the “Download eScript” button in your Account Dashboard or from your emailed order receipt. The file will automatically open in the Adobe Digital Editions app.

  • eScripts Digital Editions can be read on eReading devices such as Nook, Kobo or Sony via Adobe Digital Editions software. You will need to download the eScript into Adobe Digital Editions, then transfer the eScript to your device. Do not click the eScript download link prior to installing Adobe Digital Editions.

    Quick Install Instructions:

    1. Create an Adobe ID.
    2. Download the free Adobe Digital Editions software.
    3. Follow the installation instructions. Make sure to keep "Associate .acsm and .epub file types" selected.

  • At the moment, eScript Digital Editions are only compatible with Amazon Kindle Fire devices, by using a reader app such as Bluefire. The Bluefire reader app is not available in the App Store, but can be downloaded from the Bluefire Blog.
  • Printable Edition cast sets are designed to be opened through Adobe Digital Editions on your personal computer for printing purposes only.
  • No. Unauthorized photocopying of eScripts is strictly prohibited by law.
  • With the advanced technology of Adobe DRM (Digital Rights Management), each file is encrypted with a set number of times the file can be printed. This is specified by the Playscripts publication staff, based on the cast size of play.

    Both editions of our eScripts (Digital and Printable Editions) support all the capabilities of Adobe DRM for managing and securing content.
  • This acronym stands for Digital Rights Management, a technology used to protect digital products from copyright infringement. When a customer buys a DRM-protected eScript, the eScript is encrypted specifically for that customer. To view the eScript, they must activate their Adobe account, a process that verifies their identity and provides an electronic key for opening their eScript.
  • Our Printable Editions sold only as cast sets require that you purchase a minimum number of prints. The minimum is based on the cast size of the play. You can always add additional prints if needed. You will not be able to purchase single Printable Editions. Photocopying is strictly prohibited by law.
  • eScript Printable Edition are almost always ordered in connection with a performance, and should be ordered online at the same time you order your performance rights.   • Yes. For every eScript you would like to purchase, simply click ORDER THIS PLAY on the play's profile page, and your eScript of choice will all be located in your shopping cart ready for purchase

  • Your Account Dashboard is where all of your purchased eScripts are stored, as well as where you can go to download your eScripts. To view your Account Dashboard, click here.
  • No, eScripts are not returnable.
  • All downloadable eScript files with DRM purchasable from Playscripts.com are in the Adobe Digital Editions format. If you lose any of your downloaded eScript files, log in to your Playscripts account, and access the eScript you purchased from your Account Dashboard. You will be able to download and view the eScript; however, you must be using the same Adobe ID used when you originally purchased your eScript.
  • You should visit your Account Dashboard or check your email inbox. If your purchase was successful, you will see the title in your Account Dashboard as well as an email with your receipt and instructions on how to access your file.

    If you do not have an email from Playscripts.com and your purchased title is not in your Account Dashboard, then the transaction did not complete and you will need to try again. If you are still unsure if your purchase was completed or not, please feel free to contact us.
  • Windows: If you have not changed your preferences in Adobe Digital Editions, the files are located in your "My Documents: My Digital Editions" folder.

    Mac OS: If you have not changed your preferences in Adobe Digital Editions, the files are located in your "Documents: Digital Editions" folder.
  • You can activate your Adobe Digital Editions on up to six devices (computers, tablet, or a combination of devices.)
  • You can print your eScript Printable Editions directly from Adobe Digital Editions. Once you have downloaded the eScript using Adobe Digital Editions, simply click "File" at the top of the program and then "Print." When printing the scripts, make sure to set the orientation to "Landscape" by clicking on "Preferences" in the print window. (Note you are only able to print the number of prints/copies you purchased.)
  • Authorizing your software (by creating an Adobe ID) will ensure that you can access your eScript when using any copy of Adobe Digital Editions, eReader, or app that has been activated with the same Adobe ID. We recommend that you install the newest version of Adobe Digital Editions and authorize it with an Adobe ID before you purchase an eScript.
  • We highly recommend authorizing Adobe Digital Editions with an Adobe ID at the time you download the software. If you do not authorize your computer, it may interfere with the eScript download process. If you prefer not to activate the software at the time of the download: Later, click "Help" at the top of the program, then select "Authorize Computer."

    If you're still having trouble, it's likely that firewall protections or other security settings are preventing you from downloading Adobe Digital Editions. We would suggest consulting with your IT department if possible. Please also feel free to contact us to discuss your options.
  • Yes, to purchase on playscripts.com you must create an account. Purchased eScripts are available for download in your Account Dashboard.
  • This error may indicate that the activation site is busy, or that your computer is not allowing Adobe Digital Editions access to the Internet. Check to see that none of the security measures installed on your computer are preventing Adobe Digital Editions from accessing the Internet. If you are using a computer at a school or business consult with your IT department to ensure that you are able to download this type of file.
  • If you clicked the eScript download link prior to installing Adobe Digital Editions, this may have interfered with the download process. Please contact us, and we will send you a new eScript file.

    Please also check to make sure you have authorized the computer with an Adobe ID. You may authorize a computer by clicking "Help" at the top of Adobe Digital Editions, and then selecting "Authorize Computer."

    Another possibility is that one or more of your computer's system settings are incorrect. Close Adobe Digital Editions and verify your clock time, date, and time zone are correct then attempt to use Adobe Digital Editions again.
  • This error message typically occurs if you try to download an eScript with Adobe Reader. In order to download eScripts from Playscripts,Inc., you must have Adobe Digital Editions installed. You need to create an Adobe ID then download Adobe Digital Editions.
    If you are certain that you have already installed Adobe Digital Editions, please make sure you are selecting Adobe Digital Editions as the program to open the file with while downloading. Alternatively; if you save the acsm file to your desktop, you may simply drag the file into Adobe Digital Editions, where it should open automatically.
  • The eScript file is likely corrupt for one reason or another.Ã?????Ã????Ã???Ã??Ã? Please contact us, and we will look into the issue.
  • Most likely, there is an issue with the authorization information. Please make sure you have authorized your computer/device. If you are using Adobe Digital Editions, you may authorize the computer by clicking "Help" at the top of Adobe Digital Editions, and then selecting "Authorize Computer" and entering your Adobe ID. If "Authorize Computer" is grayed out, try de-authorizing the program by clicking CTRL+SHIFT+D (for a PC) or CMD+SHIFT+D (for a Mac) in library view. Then, re-authorize your computer by clicking "Help" at the top of Adobe Digital Editions.

    If you are using Bluefire Reader on a tablet, you may authorize the app by clicking the "Info" icon at the top of your "Library" in Bluefire Reader. Click "Authorize" and enter your Adobe ID. If you have already authorized the app, please de-authorize the app, and then attempt to re-authorize.
