Biography

Doug Rand is an entrepreneur, playwright, and public policy advisor. He currently serves as Assistant Director for Entrepreneurship at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Prior to working at the White House, Doug served as co-founder and CEO of the innovative publishing company Playscripts, Inc., as well as a co-founder of the review aggregator StageGrade. He is a graduate of Yale Law School and the Yale School of Management, and received Master's and undergraduate degrees from Harvard, where he studied evolutionary biology.

Doug's plays have been performed worldwide, and include The Idiot and the Oddity, a parody of ancient Greek theatrical classics and winner of the first-ever Thespian Playworks program; The Auditioners, a popular one-act play; Peter Pan and Wendy, a new adaptation of the J.M. Barrie novel; It's a Wonderful Life, a new adaptation of the classic film; and Plan B, Lights Out, The Concorde Fallacy, The Rock, Loco Parentis, and 20 Weeks, all Heideman Award finalists in the Actors Theatre of Louisville's National Ten-Minute Play Contest.

With C. Denby Swanson, Doug developed the play Everything So Far, which toured the state of Texas with Troupe St. Stephen's. With composer Adam Levitin, he wrote the book and lyrics for Small World Order, a musical vision of America conquered by Disney.

Doug has published numerous articles covering subjects from theater to politics to insects. He lives with his family in Washington, DC.
