Haunted by the memory of his father leaving, thirteen-year-old Sonny sets off one summer determined to bring him back. When he returns home empty-handed, he continues work at his uncle's donut shop -- only to begin hearing from his father for the first time in years. Set in small-town Alabama in 1954, this evocative memory play follows Sonny as he uncovers family secrets and navigates the funny and sad realities of growing up.
