| Playwright Jonathan Rand Tops List of North America's Most-Produced One-Acts Playscripts, Inc. co-founder pens 3 out of top 5 short plays |

| NEW YORK - Three one-act plays published by Playscripts, Inc. were among the Top 5 most-produced titles in North American high schools during the 2004-05 school year, the Educational Theatre Association recently announced. Playscripts co-founder Jonathan Rand topped the list for the first time, as his blind date comedy Check, Please surged ahead of perennial favorite This Is a Test by Stephen Gregg (now at #2). Mr. Gregg was a mentor for Mr. Rand's first play, Hard Candy, the #3 most-produced short play on the list. With Rand's satire The Least Offensive Play in the Whole Darn World coming in at #5, Jonathan Rand was among America's most-produced playwrights during the past season. "Jonathan is helping to change high school theatre," said Gregg. "His one-acts have brought life to a stagnant form, and Playscripts is doing the same thing for play publishing." Working late in his college dorm room, Rand co-founded Playscripts in 2000 with a catalog of only 8 plays (including Hard Candy and a new work by Gregg). Five years later, the company is an industry leader representing 554 titles by 292 authors. Rand's plays alone have been performed well over 2,600 times in 22 countries. Playscripts' innovative website (playscripts.com) allows visitors to read lengthy samples of every play for free, which strongly encourages experimentation with new work by both well-established and lesser-known authors. This is one way that Playscripts has propelled 6 new short plays onto the Top 10 list over the course of just five years -- a better success rate for short plays than America's older and larger play publishers have achieved over the same period.
