Playscripts, Inc. unveils exclusive New Dramatists Series
NEW YORK - Groundbreaking play publisher Playscripts, Inc. recently announced the publication of nine new plays by members of New Dramatists, America's premier artistic home for outstanding playwrights. This New Dramatists Series represents Playscripts' ongoing commitment to publish one or more works by each member playwright.

Since the founding of New Dramatists in 1949, its resident playwrights and alumni have won 12 Pulitzer Prizes, 24 Tony® Awards, 59 Obie Awards, 17 Drama Desk Awards, and 11 Susan Smith Blackburn Awards. In 2001, New Dramatists received a special Tony® Honor for Excellence in Theatre.

"This is an incredibly fertile moment in American playwriting, and the nearly 50 resident playwrights of New Dramatists are proof of the range, ambition, imagination, and beauty of contemporary writing for the stage," said Todd London, Artistic Director of New Dramatists. "At the same time, today's writers face a dearth of publishing opportunities, which means that scripts aren't getting into the hands of the people who want them -- actors, directors, producers, students, and theatre lovers. Playscripts, Inc. is addressing this vacuum creatively and energetically by making the newest and freshest plays around available to everyone."

Playscripts is the only play publisher to make lengthy samples of every play in its exclusive catalog available for free online. Before ordering books and performance rights, visitors to the Playscripts website (www.playscripts.com) can preview every play in the New Dramatists Series:

Brooke Berman: Playing House
Lisa D'Amour (2003 Obie Award winner): Frostbite and My California
Catherine Filloux: Price of Madness
Naomi Iizuka: Language of Angels and Tattoo Girl
Caridad Svich: Any Place But Here
Dominic Taylor: Personal History and Wedding Dance

Upcoming additions to the New Dramatists Series include plays by Joseph Goodrich, Michael Hollinger, Arlene Hutton, and David Lindsay-Abaire.

"New Dramatists and Playscripts, Inc. come together to do what each organization does best," said playwright Catherine Filloux, "Launch new plays into the world -- into production."
