| New York, New York July 12, 2005 -- Groundbreaking play publisher and licensing house Playscripts, Inc. unveils the new titles in their 2005/06 catalog of plays, which will be released in August 2005. The 2005/06 catalog features 177 new titles, including the current Off Broadway hit Swimming in the Shallows by Adam Bock, early hits of the season Pugilist Specialist by Adriano Shaplin and Memory House by Kathleen Tolan, and regional hits Hazard County by Allison Moore and Permanent Collection by Thomas Gibbons. The catalog also includes Will Eno's Oh, the Humanity, David Ives' Roll Over Beethoven, Deb Margolin's Three Seconds in the Key, plus four plays by Rinne Groff, including Jimmy Carter Was a Democrat. Please visit http://www.playscripts.com/2005 for a full list of new plays in the 2005/06 catalog. These exciting new titles join outstanding plays previously published by Playscripts, including work by Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan, Tony Award winner David Henry Hwang, Comedy Central Stella stars Michael Showalter and David Wain, as well as Naomi Iizuka, Julia Cho, Stephen Belber, and David Lindsay-Abaire. With affiliations with New York City's New Dramatists, The Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, and the National New Play Network, Playscripts is committed to seeking out the fresh, new voices in American theater. Playscripts is also committed to licensing excellent plays to high schools and colleges, and the new catalog features titles by some of this market's favorite authors, including Alan Haehnel, Ed Monk, and Jonathan Rand (author of Hard Candy and Check, Please, two of the most-produced plays in high schools nationwide last year). "Every year the catalog gets more ambitious, but that's the inevitable result when there are so many worthy plays to publish," said Playscripts president Doug Rand. "The roster of new plays that we are publishing this year is truly thrilling -- from the latest Off-Broadway offerings to top regional theater commissions to brilliant high school one-acts. We're tremendously honored to represent such a wide diversity of new work by such outstanding playwrights." Working late in a University of Pennsylvania dorm room and a Harvard University biology lab, brothers Jonathan and Doug Rand opened Playscripts for business in March 2000 with eight plays. Five years later, the company is an industry leader with an expansive catalog of 544 titles by 288 authors. Playscripts is the only play publisher to make lengthy samples of every play in its exclusive catalog available for free online, in an encrypted read-only format. Before ordering books and performance rights, visitors to the Playscripts website (www.playscripts.com) can preview every play in the catalog, judging the work by the author's own words.
