  • Edith Tarbescu studied playwriting at the Yale School of Drama. She has had productions in regional theatres as well as Off Broadway, at venues such as A Creative Space, Love Creek, Westbeth Theater, etc. Mother's Day, a ten-minute play, was produced at The Source Theatre (Washington, D.C.) and at The Rep (Milwaukee). Her play for children, Annushka's Voyage, was adapted from her picture book of the same title published by Houghton Mifflin. Her latest work is a one-woman show titled Suffer Queen. She's an ex-New Yorker who now lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

  • Personal History
  • Wedding Dance
  • Dominic Taylor is a St. Paul, Minnesota based writer/director for theater. Wedding Dance was produced at the Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.) by the African Continuum Theatre Company. The same organization produced his play Personal History at the same venue. Wedding Dance was also produced at Crossroads Theatre Company in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in the spring of 1997. This play was a recipient of an AT&T On Stage grant. It was also originally commissioned by the Goodman Theatre, Chicago, Illinois and was a winner of the theater's first Scott McPherson award. Personal History was first developed by Steppenwolf Theatre Company as part of the theater's New Plays Lab. He completed a Residency at HERE Theatre in New York, where he developed his play STACKS (An adaptation of Heracles by Euripides). His play, Hype Hero was written for New York Theatre Workshop as part of his Van Lier Fellowship. He has also completed an EST/Sloan Foundation grant for his play about Benjamin Banneker, entitled Ephemeris.

    He directed Ride the Rhythm by Florante Galvez in the Hip-Hop Theatre Festival. He also directed Keli Garret's play, Uppa Creek, at Dixon Place, and the Village Voice gave the production notice as one of the best of Off-Broadway 2001. He also helmed her play Destiny: Play 3 of Serve and Protect also at Dixon Place in 2005. He directed the cantata Negroes Burial Ground (Librettist, Ann Greene--Composer, Leroy, Jenkins) at the Kitchen, NYC. The piece was developed at Bennington College (where he held a teaching appointment) in the winter of 1995 with the aid of a Rockefeller Grant. He also directed the new Opera Fresh Faust (Librettist Greg Tate--Composer, Leroy Jenkins) at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, Massachusetts. He participated in the 2000 directors Lab at Lincoln Center.

    He was a participant in the first Black Theatre Summit, in March 1998, at Dartmouth College (Convened by August Wilson).

    He is an alumni member of New Dramatists. He holds a Bachelors' Degree in Engineering from Brown University. He also has a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Writing from the same institution. He is an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota. He is the Associate Artistic Director of Penumbra Theatre Company in St. Paul.

  • Clipped Wings
  • Scott Taylor began writing for Australian theatre in the early 1990s, with productions of his plays Closing Time, The Empty Playground, and Clipped Wings, the latter winning the Australian Writer's Guild award for best play. Mr. Taylor began writing for television in 1994, running a number of internationally popular Australian shows, before working overseas setting up new dramas in Indonesia, Poland, and Russia. He has developed a number of original programs for Fremantlemedia and has recently formed his own company, Cableview Producers, in partnership with producer Wayne Henry. The company is working towards producing original film and television products. Mr. Taylor currently works out of Melbourne Australia.

  • Robert Teague, Jr.. Mr. Teague's work has found audiences around the world, most recently in the form of two 10-minute plays for the 2008 Shotgun Theater Festival at the Gene Frankel Theatre in New York City. He lives in Brooklyn, NY, with his notebooks and a pile of laundry he's pretty sure is clean.

  • The Civilians. Since its founding in 2001 by Artistic Director Steven Cosson, The Civilians has supported the creation of seven original shows -- Canard, Canard, Goose?, The Ladies, Paris Commune, Gone Missing, (I am) Nobody's Lunch, Shadow of Himself and This Beautiful City. The Civilians' projects have been produced at venues throughout New York including The Public Theater, joe's pub, St. Ann's Warehouse, 59E59 among others, and at theaters nationally including A.R.T., La Jolla Playhouse, HBO's US Comedy Festival, and Actors Theatre of Louisville. Works by the company have also toured nationally and internationally to universities, arts presenters and festivals. Recent touring engagements have included The Hopkins Center at Dartmouth, Princeton, World Performance Project at Yale, Wesleyan, University of Pennsylvania, and Connecticut College. The Civilians made its UK debut with Gone Missing in 2004 at the Gate Theatre, and (I Am) Nobody's Lunch was a Fringe First Award winner at the 2006 Edinburgh Fringe leading to a London production at Soho Theatre. The Civilians' recent commercial run of Gone Missing at the Barrow Street Theater ran for seven months and was included in several Top 10 of 2007 lists in the New York press including critic Charles Isherwood's list in the The New York Times. The company's new major project, This Beautiful City premiered at the 2008 Humana Festival and is slated for upcoming productions at major theaters including Studio Theatre, Center Theatre Group (Mark Taper), Vineyard Theatre, and La Jolla Playhouse. Also in the current season, Paris Commune was produced in The Public Theater's Public LAB series. The Civilians produced accompanying programs at The Museum of Modern Art and the City University of New York. The company has developed its work in residencies with New York Theatre Workshop, Sundance Theatre Lab, the MacDowell Colony and The Orchard Project. This Beautiful City was developed through a year-long residency at Colorado College. Gone Missing will be published by Dramatists Play Service and the cast recording was produced by Ghostlight Records. (I Am) Nobody's Lunch was published by Oberon Books. The Civilians received an Obie in 2004 in recognition of its accomplishments in its first two seasons of work.

  • The Debate Society is a Brooklyn based company that creates new plays through the collaboration of Hannah Bos, Paul Thureen (writer/performers) and Oliver Butler (director/developer). The trio's plays include A Thought About Raya (The Brick), The Snow Hen, You're Welcome, Detroit, The Eaten Heart (Ontological-Hysteric Theater), Cape Disappointment (PS122), and Buddy Cop 2 (Ontological-Hysteric Theater). The company's past tour destinations include Portland, OR; Austin, TX; Hartford, CT; Martha's Vineyard, MA and Syracuse, NY. The Debate Society's play Cape Disappointment was recently published in Play a Journal Of Plays.

  • Throw Pitchfork
  • Alexander Thomas was born and raised in Albany, New York. He studied acting at New York City studios such as the Stella Adler Studio and others. He originated his solo play Throw Pitchfork at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, California, and premiered it Off-Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshop in 2002. Later that same year the play premiered regionally in upstate New York at The Kitchen Theater in Ithaca. Throw Pitchfork was also produced at JAW West Festival at Portland Center Stage in Portland, Oregon, and October Fest at The Ensemble Studio Theater in New York City. It was the closing act at The 4th Annual Thespis Monodrama Festivel in Kiel, Germany where it won a special honors award. Mr. Thomas currently resides in London, England.

  • Lucy Thurber is the author of seven plays: Where We're Born, Ashville, Scarcity, Killers and Other Family, Stay, Bottom of The World and Monstrosity. The Atlantic Theater Company opened its 2007/08 season with Scarcity. Rattlestick Playwrights Theater has produced three of her plays, Where We're Born, Killers and Other Family, and Stay. Bottom of The World was commissioned and workshopped by Women's Expressive Theater, Inc. at the Eugene O'Neill, the first Tribeca Theater Festival and The Public Theater. Monstrosity was workshopped at Encore Theatre Company (San Francisco). She was the recipient of the 2000-2001 Manhattan Theatre Club Playwriting Fellowship and has been a guest artist at Alaska's Perseverance Theatre twice, where she helped to adapt both Desire Under The Elms and Moby Dick. She has had readings and workshops at Manhattan Theatre Club, The New Group, Primary Stages, MCC Theater, Encore Theatre Company, PlayPenn, Williamstown Theatre Festival, New River Dramatists and Soho Rep. She was one of three playwrights in residence at The Orchard Project, summer 2007. Her 10-minute play Dinner is published in Not So Sweet, a collection of plays from Soho Rep's 10 minute play festival. Scarcity was published in the December 2007 issue of American Theatre. Her produced plays are published by Dramatists Play Service. Ms. Thurber is a member of New Dramatists, 13P, MCC Playwrights Coalition and Dorothy Strelsin New American Writers Group at Primary Stages. She is currently writing a new play under commission from Playwrights Horizons. She is the recipient of the 1st Gary Bonasorte Memorial Prize for Playwriting 2008. She has taught at Columbia University in Graduate Playwriting and currently teaches at Sarah Lawrence College. She also runs an after school playwriting program for New York City teenagers through MCC Theater.

  • Paul Thureen is a founder and co-Artistic director of The Debate Society. He has co-written and starred in all of the company's productions. As an actor, other performances include Hostage Song, The Pumpkin Pie Show (PS122), Tango 'til They're Sore (The Flea), The Description of the World (Theatre de la Jeune Lune), The Odyssey Experience (McCarter) and Late Show with David Letterman (CBS). He has studied at The National Theater Institute, The Moscow Art Theater and Vassar College (B.A. in Drama).

They have been produced in regional theatres (including Trinity Repertory Theatre and the Actors Theatre of Louisville), in New York (including Playwrights Horizons, The Public Theatre and the Women's Project) and in Europe. She has received various commissions and awards. Her translation of Marivaux's False Servant was recently produced by the Classic Stage Company. She is the recipient of the 2005 McKnight National Residency and Commission. She is a member of the Writers Guild, the Dramatists Guild and PEN. She teaches playwriting at SUNY Purchase. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.

  • Angela Tomaselli earned her MA in theatre from Miami University, and received additional training at the Yale School of Drama for directing. She began her theatrical career as Creative Dramatist and Playwright-in-Residence at Creative Theatre in Princeton, New Jersey. While there she was commissioned to write Freedom's Journey for the New Jersey State Museum and My Secret Invention for Rhone Poulenc's centennial. Freedom's Journey was added to Creative Theatre's season and toured New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania for two seasons. Ms. Tomaselli also served as an artist-in-residence for the New Jersey State Council of the Arts and worked in the Newark Public Schools. She then transferred to the South Brunswick School District in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, where she served as an Arts Specialist for the K-6 after-school program. She continued her work at South Brunswick High School, where she directed the Reality Theatre Troupe and taught in the Project Promise program for at-risk youth. In addition, she served as the Playwright and Director for Corner House of Princeton's Prevention Education program.

    Ms. Tomaselli then accepted a position at Orange Middle and High Schools in New Jersey, where she created, developed, and implemented the district's first theatre program. In addition to her work commitments, she has been active throughout the years in her church's drama ministries, where she has written, directed, and performed numerous sketches and plays. Ms. Tomaselli is currently the Theatre Magnet Director at Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton, Ohio.

  • Werner Trieschmann's numerous plays -- including Dog Star, Wrought Iron, and Killers -- have been staged by Moving Arts in Los Angeles, Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York City, The New Theatre in Boston, Mobtown Players in Baltimore, and Red Octopus Productions in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mr. Trieschmann was a resident at the Mount Sequoyah New Play Retreat in Fayetteville, Arkansas. His play Lawn Dart won first prize in the Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans New Play Competition. He was the first playwright to receive the Porter Prize, an Arkansas literary award recognizing outstanding achievement by an Arkansas writer.

    His full-length comedy You Have to Serve Somebody is published by the Dramatic Publishing Company; several of his short plays are published by Playscripts, Inc.; his dark one-act comedy Killers is published through Original Works Publishing; and a monologue from Killers is included in the The Best Women's Stage Monologues 1999, published by Smith & Kraus.
